How it works . . .
When St. Patrick parishioners and supporters purchase SCRIP, they're purchasing gift certificates that are used just like cash. For example, when a person purchases a $10 SCRIP certificate to a store, he/she pays just $10 for the certificate and gets a full $10 in purchasing value. NO HIDDEN COST!! The SCRIP is issued by the national and local retailers where many of them already shop. These merchants support St. Patrick School, and in return hope you will support them by shopping with SCRIP at their businesses. St. Patrick parishioners and supporters can use SCRIP to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, they earn very important financial support for St. Patrick School. We like to call it "FREE MONEY!" You can't beat that!!
Where can you get SCRIP . . .
Immediately after Saturday and Sunday Masses at St. Patrick Catholic Church, one of our SCRIP volunteers will be selling SCRIP certificates just inside the front doors of the school. Take a few minutes to go over there and find out if we have SCRIP for some of the businesses where you regularly make purchases. We guarantee you that we do! You can purchase some SCRIP certificates for your favorite businesses, and use those certificates instead of cash the next time you make a purchase. Then feel great about yourself, because you will have just helped all of our kids at St. Patrick School get funding for their school academic and religious programs, without it costing you a cent since you get $1 of purchasing value for every $1 of SCRIP you buy! Wow! Only through the SCRIP program can you get something for nothing!!
How else can you get SCRIP . . .
If you don't want to take the time to walk across the street to the school after Mass, you can just click the link at the bottom of this page and download a PDF copy of a SCRIP order form. Print it out, fill out your order, put it in an envelope along with a check for the right amount made out to "St. Pat's SCRIP," and drop the envelope in the collection basket during the offertory collection at Mass. Your order will be filled by our great volunteers, and will be ready for you to pick it up at the school after Mass the next week. If you want to check to find out if your order is filled, you can always call the school at 319-462-2688 during the school day and ask. If you can't get over to the school after Mass to pick up your order, you can always stop by the school during a school day, or just call us and we can figure out a way to get your order to you.

How does the school profit
when you use SCRIP . . .
To explain how the program works, let's take the example of a business that sells us $10 SCRIP certificates and provides a 10% discount donation to St. Patrick School. When that business sells the school a $10 SCRIP certificate, they only charge us $9 to buy it. The $1 off represents their 10% discount donation to the school. The donation is realized when a SCRIP user purchases the certificate for its face value of $10. The user gets $10 of purchasing value for his/her $10 spent on the certificate. The $1 (10%) difference becomes a donation for the school. Hooray!
Store owners realize that their business increases when they participate in the SCRIP program, because parishioners and school supporters tend to become loyal customers at participating businesses. Also, those businesses look upon SCRIP certificates as the same as cash, since they have already been paid for when they sold the certificates to the school. No need to worry about credit or bad checks.
